Family Fun!

We went to my Aunt's house for a family get together on Saturday.  My cousin was in town visiting with her new boyfriend, Lane.  He was such a nice guy and so glad that Katie is happy.  Declan also was pretty happy to see his Pop and Cyn Cyn.  That completes any weekend for him :-)  We did have a bit of a scare.  Declan busted his lip on a bench and there was a lot of blood, but he was okay.  He stayed up until 9:30 and was an angel!  Our little trooper.

We went to Jason's grandmother's house to celebrate Chris and Lisa's bday!  It was another fun filled day with family with temps in the 60's!  We definitely took advantage of the beautiful weather!

Counting Our Blessings

I received a call from one of my students' mother on Friday morning before I dropped Declan off at Ms. Jeanne's..."Mrs. Wood, J will not be at school today, our apartment burned down, we are all okay, but we lost everything and he can't make it to school today."  I was in shock and I don't think it had hit her yet.  They were in their pajamas and watching American Idol and the (electrical) fire started in their apartment.  They tried to put it out, but it did not help and they had to run out of the house and leave everything behind.  Again, they are all okay, but can you even imagine???  What would you do?

I knew I had to do something for this family, so I turned to FB for help (great idea, Mom).  With the help of some very generous coworkers, friends, and family I was able to gather a ton of stuff.  Jason, Declan, my long time friend Casey and her son Jaden and I, dropped off a truck and car load of donations, gift cards, and cash.  The family was overwhelmed.

After everything was unloaded...my student ran to me and gave me a hug and a kiss and was crying as I left.  The mother and I were able to hold it together until then. We both started crying.  As I was walking down the hall I heard her older son say..."Are you okay, Mama?  Those are happy tears, right?"  She replied with "Yes, son very happy tears."

So for all of you that were so generous in helping this family...thank you.  I was able to drop off more money and another carload to them today.  More tears, but happy tears.  They are going to be okay.  What a special family.

What are we into these days...EVERYTHING!

Loves to play with the dishwasher
 Oh...and get in it...
Loves to sit in the fridge
 and vacuum
 all by himself..."mine mama!"
Rearranging his room is still on his top 5
"bye...sheee u."
Declan sure is into exploring and seeing how everything works.  He has been like this for awhile, but now he knows where things are and helps himself to what he wants.  He also is not so happy when I take it away.  He loves being in the kitchen.  I have to hold him when I cook so he can see what is going on and repeat every ingredient that I'm using.  He is also a big help when unloading the dishwasher, yeah right.  He has to sit in it and be right there with me, same goes for the fridge.  Ha ha!  I love how he likes to be right there with me and is learning new vocabulary and how things work, but every "chore" takes twice as long now.  It is worth it though, I love spending time with this little boy no matter what we are doing.

A Visit With Grandmama/Gi Gi

We went to visit my grandmother yesterday.  All I can say is that she has her "good" days and "bad" days, but the past couple times I have seen her it has been a "bad" one.  Alzheimer's is one nasty disease.  It makes me so sad to see her, yet happy because we make her smile for that moment.  Her face lights up when she sees her grandchildren, but especially her great grandchildren.  She absolutely adores them.

I know it is so hard for my mom to see her mother going through all of this and has had to struggle with every decision she has had to make for her with the help of my aunt and uncle.  Needless to say it is always very emotional when we go to visit.  I can't help, but cry every time we leave her.  She is the last grandparent I have left.  I may not be her favorite, but she has always been there for me...so I will be there for her through each phase of this AWFUL disease.  I will also be there for my mom as she watches her mother go through all of this knowing there is nothing she or any of us can do.  I

Gi Gi and all of her great grandchildren.  She is so happy :-)

Aunts and Uncles

I think being an Aunt is one of the best things in the world.  You get to spoil your sister or brother's children and then send them back.  You also love those kids as if they were your own.  I would do anything in the world for Kara, Owen, or Gavin.  I hope they love me as much as I love my Aunts and Uncles.

I'm happy to know that Declan is loved that much by his Aunt and Uncle.  Declan got to see Aunt Lauren and Uncle Chris on Friday.  His little face lights up when he sees them!  They are so good to him and he loves them so much.

He also got to see Aunt Staci on Sunday!  He can now say her name and cried for her and my mom as we pulled away from the restaurant this evening... "Cee Cee" and "Shin Shin" with alligator tears in his eyes.  He also got to play with his cousins all day!  I have a feeling they are all going to be the best of friends.

Thank you for loving our little boy and spending so much time with him!  It means so much to him and to me!

Houdini

Declan figured out how to take his tray off of his high chair and thought it was the best game in the world, so we have moved him to another seat!  Silly boy!

Snow Day #2

We were snowed in again today and will be tomorrow as well.  Declan pretty much stayed in his pajamas all day.  He would get a shoe and say "bye bye."  He definitely has cabin fever.  He was calling out for the lady that keeps him during the day too.  Not sure how I feel about that.  Trying not to take it personally and just think he wanted to get out and see her and his friends. Makes me happy too that he likes where he goes every morning. We definitely have cabin fever, but we are enjoying are time as a family and embracing it.

We lounged around the house and made cookies.   He is really into Sesame Street and really likes Cookie Monster, so I figured we would give the cookies a try.  He LOVED it!  I had put it off during Christmas because I didn't think it would be something he would like.  Boy, was I wrong! Of course he loved the batter!  Before I get an email from someone about how he could have gotten salmonella or sick or whatever...he didn't and is just fine:-)  I have eaten batter off of more beaters and spoons than I can count and I too am alive to tell about it!  He liked decorating them too.  He would ask for a "bite" of the icing and then yelled "cookie" as he ran around the house with his cookie.  Fun day!  Can you tell we are ready to get out.  I just blogged about making cookies for the love of God!?  Ha ha!

OH MY...how could I forget?!  WAR DAMN EAGLE!!!  Congrats to the Auburn Tigers and winning the National Championship!  I could not be more proud to be an Auburn alumni!!!  Tired of all the people saying we played ugly or unfair and all of the crap about Cam Newton.  We won...end of story!   You can keep on hating, but we are still the national champs!

He was actually a big help!
Wanted the spoon to get another taste of batter!
 Mmmmmm!
 Precious face!
 My little chef!
Cookies!  They are not the prettiest, but we gave it our best effort ;-)
 Watching TV...
 Ohhhhh!
 I've got the remote, Suckers!
Sesame Street, Wonder Pets, or Curious George?  Yeah!  I'm SO excited!

I will try to come up with something fun to do tomorrow for day #3!

Snow Day...Again

 LOVES it!
 My boys :-)
 Watching Dixon...
 WOW!
He sat there and took it all in forever....
YUMMY!!!  He ate a ton of snow!
He liked watching it fall off of the car.
 Dixon catching snowballs!
 Bam!  Got it!
Help!  I'm stuck!

We are at home today!  School was cancelled, so we went out and played in the snow.  Declan loves it and all he wants to do is eat it!  He did try sliding down the hill in our front yard on his bottom.  He definitely gets the love of the snow and cold from his Cyn Cyn!  We will see if we are cancelled again tomorrow.   I would be okay with that so I can stay up and watch my Auburn Tigers play tonight!  I took a ton of pictures, but these are a few of my favorites :-)
